Jesel Edolen Rodriguez Amaya was riding a 2003 Suzuki GSXR 600 motorcycle shortly after midnight on Sunday morning when he was involved in a crash in his hometown in the 2400 block of Old Washington Road.

Investigators say that Rodriguez Amaya was heading south on Old Washington Road when he struck the Mustang, which was also traveling in the same direction.

Rodriguez Amaya was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. The driver in the Ford remained at the scene to assist with the investigation.

The Charles County Sheriff's Office announced the fatal crash on Sept. 22, though the agency was unable to identify the motorcyclist until Tuesday night.

According to investigators, the motorcycle was unregistered.

Rodriguez Amaya's mother started a GoFundMe campaign that was slow to pick up traction following her son's death that left her "and the entire family grieving and devastated."

Now they are seeking the public's assistance in sending the teenager's body back to the family's native Honduras for a proper burial.

"This sudden and unexpected loss of my boy has left me heartbroken," Nesly Yamali Amaya wrote. "Our family greatly appreciates all the prayers, visits, and kind words that I have received during this challenging time," she added.

Services for the teen have been scheduled for Monday, Sept. 30. Click here to donate.
